Samajwadi Party patriarch and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav participated in Ram Manohar Lohia’s ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ while studying in school. Mulayam had also written his name for arrest for this and challenged the government policies. After that his popularity continued to grow in his field. Mulayam’s teacher Uday Pratap Singh has narrated an anecdote related to him. This story is also from Mulayam’s school days.
Talking to a YouTube channel named ‘News Nasha’, Uday Pratap Singh said, ‘There was a student named Sarayuddin in our school. Sarayuddin finished first in the pole vault competition and became the live weight champion. It was January 26, the principal asked me to organize a game. The children also liked me a little and Sarayuddin used to stay with me. I told Mulayam to wrestle with Sarayuddin.
Challenge given to a friend after becoming a minister: Uday Pratap Singh further explains, ‘Saryuddin’s height was 6 feet and Mulayam was less. When the wrestling competition started, Mulayam used to play with gimmicks and Sarayuddin did not know all this. They used to slam him, but his small arms did not come into his big body. Neither of the two lost in wrestling and the match was equal. Saryuddin later became the security officer of this assembly.
Sarayuddin made this complaint to the teacher: Uday Pratap Singh further said, ‘Mulayam Singh Yadav went further into politics and became the cooperative minister for the first time. In 1977, when I was coming for some work, I was walking backwards while talking to people and they were ahead. When Mulayam stopped, Sarayuddin Tripathi stood up. He said something in his ear and moved on. Sarayuddin later told me that understand them, they have become ministers but they challenge us to fight wrestling again and again. This whole incident was a funny story. The personality of Mulayam Singh Yadav is such that he meets his friends like this.
