Father was a truck driver, his hand was damaged in childhood, Harvinder Singh became IAS in third attempt

Harvinder Singh had cleared the UPSC exam in the year 2018. Even though he is an IAS officer today, his journey was no less difficult. He had an accident in childhood.

Every year lakhs of candidates appear in the UPSC exam, but only a select few get success. In such a situation, many times the candidates get disappointed. Today we will tell you the story of Harvinder Singh, with whom an accident happened in his childhood and his whole life changed. Harvinder had told that in childhood his mother had left the house and went out. But when he came inside and saw me, three fingers of my hand were in hot oil.

Harvinder Singh recalls, ‘It was a big accident and after that never three fingers of my hand could be straightened. I wanted to join the army since childhood. I gave NDA exam for the first time. I got success in the first attempt, but I was thrown out in the medical. There I was advised that if it is surgery then it will be fine. I again gave NDA exam and got surgery done.

Was out for the second time: Harvinder Singh had told, ‘The second time also he had cleared the NDA exam. But at that time stitches were visible on my hand, then again it came out for the second time. After that I did engineering, but I could not get a job. Shortly after graduating, I got a job as a civil engineer. Then my father used to do farming and also used to drive a truck part time when he got time.

It was during the job itself that Harvinder Singh had decided to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. But the question of not leaving the job was definitely in front of him. In the first attempt, he crashed out of the prelims. In the second attempt, he reached the mains, but could not clear. For the third attempt, he started working on his mistakes, as he considered it his last attempt. Eventually he got success in the third attempt. He got 355 rank and got selected in IAS.

Harvinder got the Jammu and Kashmir cadre and is currently serving here. When Harvinder was asked about his success, he had said that faith in yourself and hard work are the only two things you can achieve success.
