For its 30th edition, the Biarritz Latin America Festival puts Peruvian cinema in the spotlight

It is one of the most famous events dedicated to cinemas and Latin American cultures. The Biarritz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary. On the program until October 4, the official competition, literary meetings, exhibitions, concerts and a focus on Peru, which is celebrating the bicentenary of its independence this year.

A benchmark festival for Latin American cinema, the Biarritz event attracts 35,000 people every year for one week. An unmissable event of which this is the thirtieth edition this year. In competition, ten documentaries, as many feature films and eleven short films. But also literary meetings, photo exhibitions, street art, conferences and concerts, to discover until October 4.

For this thirtieth edition, the organizers have chosen to honor Peru on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of its independence (July 28, 1821). Festival-goers will be able to discover a selection of ten films reflecting the revival of Peruvian cinema. “It is booming because there have been very proactive public policies to support production which have allowed the emergence of a whole generation of filmmakers. It is a selection and a very exotic cinema for us French people“, specifies Antoine Sebire, the general delegate of the Biarritz Latin America festival.

Note that visitors will also be able to discover Peruvian gastronomy evoked through its history, its great figures and its emblematic dishes, but also its revival. The contemporary Peruvian cuisine carried by young chefs is recognized today as one of the most fascinating and creative in the world and an important lever of influence for Peru.

Another highlight of the festival is the retrospective dedicated to Chilean filmmaker Ignacio Agüero, present for the occasion on the Basque coast, with a selection of thirteen of his films. Or the exhibition, scattered throughout the seaside resort, by Franco-Argentinian Daniel Mordzinski, nicknamed the photographer of writers, who has been working for more than forty years on the construction of what he calls his human atlas of literature. .
