Geely’s electric car tests autonomous driving technology

ChinaLaunched in April, the all-electric Zeekr 001 model now demonstrates the ability to drive itself in traffic.

Geely’s own brand electric car was tested in Hangzhou, near Zeekr’s factory in Zhejiang province. The video, which is more than a minute long, shows the car going through crowded intersections while the driver is only responsible for monitoring with his hands near the steering wheel.

Zeekr 001 demonstrates two skills, first turning left and then turning. Both times were carried out by the car itself, with the supervision of the driver without interfering with the steering wheel.

Geely says the technology in the video is being tested, and may vary on finished products and services. The Chinese automaker also said that Zeekr 001 has begun to be delivered to customers.

In June, a representative for Zeekr said that the company had sold all of the vehicles it planned to produce this year. The Zeekr 001 – a sporty hatchback model – has two engine options. A rear-mounted electric motor (RWD) version or a two-motor four-wheel drive (AWD) version both has a capacity of 268 horsepower and 384 Nm of torque. The AWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

Two battery pack options include 86 kWh and 100 kWh versions. The 100 kWh battery has a journey of 606 km per charge on the AWD version and 726 km on the RWD version. With a charging capacity of 360 kW, the car can run for 120 km with a charging time of only 5 minutes.

In China, the Zeekr 001 starts at $41,000.
