DISAPPEARANCE – World champion in 1974 with the FRG, the former Bayern Munich striker, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, died on Sunday at the age of 75.
“Gerd Müller was the best center forward of all time.” So reacted Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Sunday when he learned of the disappearance, at the age of 75, of the “Bomber der Nation”. It was, it is true, formidably effective. 68 goals in 62 caps for the white jersey of West Germany (FRG) for a staggering average of more than one goal per game! And, in total, 674 goals scored in 749 official matches. All thanks to a permanent presence in the penalty area, a killer instinct and a sniper technique. But never long raids.
The physical effort, very little for him. At the start of the season, Gerd Müller hardly liked running and refused long jogs in the forest. His favorite thing was to roam around, always on the lookout. Always ready to draw, whatever its position, whatever the gesture.
