iPhone 12 Pro is Apple’s exclusive phone model equipped with a LiDAR sensor, which first appeared on the iPad Pro 2020 earlier this year.
LiDAR sensors bring a lot of interesting features, namely measuring a person’s height via the Measure app.
If you’re using an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max, simply open the Measure app that comes pre-installed on your phone. At this point, the screen will display a message asking you to stand a distance from the subject, so that the person fits inside the frame.
A few moments later, the LiDAR sensor will automatically detect and measure the person’s height. Apple also notes that you can even measure the height of a person sitting in a chair using the Measure app.

In addition to iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, this feature is also available on iPad Pro 2020.
While this is a simple feature, it is interesting to use a LiDAR sensor for such purposes. Since the LiDAR sensor can generate 3D maps, it allows for more accurate height measurements compared to AR applications (relying only on camera data to do this).
