On social networks, the Korean car company announced that it would launch Bayon on March 2 on the online platform.
The social media account of Hyundai Europe wrote: “Are you ready for new heights? Stay tuned for 2/3 for the all-new Bayon world debut!”. In addition, the company also stated that this product may not be available in some markets. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions may not be determined.
Information about the compact car was mentioned two years ago, that there is a possibility that Hyundai would offer a modest-sized crossover for the old continent. The first image ever appeared with the word “Bayon” next to the boomerang-shaped lights. This name was trademarked in Europe earlier this year, and comes from the southwestern city of Bayonne.
According to industry reviews, Bayon is technically relevant with the i20 model, and could be the i20 Active’s replacement in the European market. The Bayon will be Hyundai’s smallest crossover, or at least in Europe. Meanwhile, bigger than Bayon, but Kona is only 4,205 mm long. The Bayon is therefore said to be slightly better than the i20 (4,040 mm).
The Bayon’s engine may be the same as the i20, with an expected output of 201 hp and 275 Nm of torque from the 1.6-liter turbo engine. All versions will be front-wheel drive.
After making its world premiere next March 2, Bayon could reach Europe in the first half of this year.
