Indicted for rape and sexual assault, Gérard Depardieu denounces “lies” and says he is “innocent”

“Me, rapist ? “ In an interview published Wednesday February 24 by the Italian daily La Repubblica (article in Italian, subscribers only), Gérard Depardieu returns for the first time on his indictment for “rape” and “sexual assault”.

As his lawyer had indicated, the actor vigorously contests the accusations that target him. “There is no proof, there is nothing against me and therefore I am very serene”, explains the actor, according to comments reported by Le Figaro. “I can only dismiss as clearly as possible, as already done before the investigators, all the accusations.”

Evoking “a totally unfounded story”, he also says to consider as “close” the investigation that targets him. “For me, the investigation was closed for lack of evidence. In court, I will reaffirm my innocence. I am innocent and I have nothing to fear”, hammers the actor.

The 72-year-old actor was indicted on December 16 in Paris for two “rapes” and “sexual assaults” of which a young actress accuses him since the summer of 2018. The complainant, a woman in her twenties years, had denounced to the gendarmerie at the end of August 2018 to have been raped twice at the Parisian home of the star a few days earlier.

She had obtained in the summer of 2020 that the investigation, first dismissed by the Paris prosecutor’s office after nine months of investigations, be resumed by an examining magistrate. The investigations are therefore still in progress, contrary to what Gérard Depardieu affirms in his interview.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Elodie Tuaillon-Hibon, said on Twitter on Wednesday that she would not do “no comment following the revelation of this indictment”. “It’s time for legal information and respect for the privacy of my client, which must be particularly protected”, she asked.
