The famous convertible used in the comedy “Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez”, in which Louis de Funès took on the lead role, has just been sold for nearly 30,000 euros to a happy new buyer.
In 1963, gendarme Cruchot, played by Louis de Funès, was driving mechanics on the port of Saint-Tropez aboard a turquoise convertible particularly recognizable for cinema fans: an Oldsmobile. The famous car seen in the comedy The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez resurfaced 58 years later, with 100,000 kilometers on the clock. At the time, the car had been purchased especially for the film, as evidenced by its original registration card where the name of the production company that distributed the film is mentioned.
The new buyer wants to be discreet and will not say the price at which he bought the car. It evokes a crush. “I already have huge buyout proposals, at three times its value. There is no way I will sell it, I will keep it, I will ride with it, I will pamper it, he assures. For my 60th birthday, they are going to buy me a gendarme costume and I hope to parade with it, in Saint-Tropez, of course!“
