Never got admission in IIT, today is IAS Om Kant Thakur, cleared UPSC exam not once but thrice



It was not easy at all for Om Kant Thakur to reach the IAS officer. His family never had the money to pay even the college fees.

Many a times candidates get frustrated due to failure in UPSC exam. The same happened with Om Kant Thakur, but he did not lose heart and continued with his preparation. Eventually his childhood dream came true and he managed to become an IAS. Even though today he has become a big officer of the country, but his family did not even have money to pay college fees.

Om Kant Thakur was doing a job worth lakhs of rupees, but he left the job to fulfill his childhood dream. After coming from Bangalore, he started taking coaching. When he came back after leaving his job, he was scared to see the coaching class because there were many children there. But he also did not know that he would clear the UPSC-like exam not once but thrice.

Om Kant Thakur did his schooling from Samastipur, Bihar. Om Kant recalls that it was a village school and there were no special facilities. After passing the 10th examination, I did further studies from Muzaffarpur. I started preparing for JEE. In 12th I started preparing for IIT, but even there I failed. Omkant says that it is very important for you to have faith in yourself. If you prepare with diligence then you will surely succeed.

DM Help: Om Kant says, ‘I have sacrificed a lot in life, only then I have achieved this success. After I graduated from NIIT, I worked for 3 years 8 months. Here I also got a job in Samsung. I loved computer science. The condition of my family was very bad during college time. The District Magistrate of that time had given me a loan for education. From here I saw that the District Magistrate solved all my problems in a pinch.

He further said, ‘In 2009, I felt the most that now I should start preparing for UPSC. When I searched, I came to know that for the IAS exam, there are some other things not just studies. When I got a chance, I had cleared the UPSC exam. College friends used to laugh at me too. But no one knew that I was serious about it.
