Step 1: Go to Settings > Focus.
Step 2: Click the Plus icon > Customize.
Step 3: Give your focus mode a name by typing in the box > choose a display icon color > select a display icon (eg heart, smiley) > Next.
Step 4: At this point, press the plus icon > select the contact in your contact list that you want to receive notifications when focus mode is on > Allow.
Step 5: Similar to the above, you choose the application that is allowed to notify when the focus mode is on > Allow.
Step 6: When focus mode is ready, press Done. Now you need to flip the switch to enable the focus mode you just set up.
