Prelude to the first “Twin Sisters” festival, JR sets up his photo booth truck in front of the Corderie royale de Rochefort

On June 23, the first edition of a festival dedicated to music and images called Twin sisters in reference to the famous film by Jacques Demy which made the city famous. To mark the event, the inhabitants had the right to have their portrait taken in the famous truck transformed into a photo booth by the artist JR. Large format photos pasted on the walls of the Corderie Royale.

Dozens of them wait their turn to enter JR’s rolling photo booth. The artist’s famous black truck is parked in front of the equally famous Corderie Royale de Rochefort to draw portraits of the inhabitants. In one minute, adults, teens and children leave with their large format photo, then pasted by the festival teams on the walls of the Corderie. An operation to introduce Rochefort residents to the brand new festival Twin sisters dedicated to the meeting of music and image. One way to invite them to take part.

At the origin of this festival, postponed for a year due to the pandemic, the actress, director and producer Julie Gayet who wanted to create a meeting devoted to music and image, all sectors combined : series, documentaries, advertising, clips, video games, animation, virtual reality and of course cinema. The choice of Rochefort was quickly imposed as Clémentine Charlemaine, director of communication for the festival, underlines: “The name Twin sisters is obviously a tribute to Jacques Demy’s film (…) For us, this film is really the meeting of music and image par excellence, recognized as such throughout the world“.

Whether it accompanies a scene or fully participates in the story, music is an inseparable component of a work: it is this which sets the tone and rhythm, which sets an atmosphere, marks a style or an era, intensifies the emotions. Music and Image have always had a fused history: they are Twin Sisters!
