During an interview with Akhilesh Yadav, the question was asked about the defeat in the 2017 assembly elections. In response, he said something like this.

In view of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, former CM Akhilesh Yadav has started mobilization with smaller parties. Akhilesh had already made it clear that he will not repeat the mistake of 2017 in this election and will not forge an alliance with any major party. He had said that big parties only ask for more seats, but it only causes loss. In an interview, Akhilesh Yadav was asked a question about the crushing defeat in the year 2017.

Senior journalist Rajat Sharma was asked by Akhilesh Yadav, ‘You have built roads, distributed laptops, but lost the election?’ In response, he said, ‘I wanted you to ask this question. In your question lies our answer. Because when I was talking about development, these people were talking about graveyard and cremation ground. These people were talking about caste that Yadav robbed everything and Kurmi you got nothing, Pal people snatched yours, Srivastava snatched everything from you. We are against Brahmins and against Thakurs.

Akhilesh Yadav further says, ‘BJP people were using such language. These people are linking everything to Aadhaar. Your land registry has also started linking with Aadhaar. Bank account with aadhar, mobile, sim are all linked with aadhaar. We say that you people also add our caste to the base and do not quarrel as to which caste is which. The only thing we do not like about these people is that they try to divide the society on caste, religion. You tell me if we lost the election after this, then what was right?’

Clarification on Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s statement: The SP chief had defended his statement comparing Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah with Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru, saying the BJP should re-read the history books.
