Seduced by the landscapes of Ariège, the director André Téchiné shoots “Les pieds sur terre”

For three weeks, the filmmaker André Téchiné has put his cameras in Ariège. Seduced by the verdant scenery of the department and the typical small villages, the director shoots Feet on the ground, his thirtieth film. Several inhabitants of the region had the chance to participate, as extras, in the filming.

In recent weeks, the Ax-les-Thermes valley has taken on the appearance of a large cinema set. In Orgeix, a small, usually peaceful village, people live to the rhythm of the 7th art. From actors to the technical team, the shooting of André Téchiné’s new film mobilizes around forty people. As for the extras, the production turned exclusively to the local population, like Magalie, a resident of the region who found herself on the screen by a strange combination of circumstances. “My brother had come to town hall to fill out some papers for his wedding and the production team asked them to play the bride and groom in the film and I am the witness!”, says Magalie.

After numerous scouting in the Alps or in the Pyrenees, it is finally the department of Ariège which naturally imposed itself on André Téchiné and his team. “The tastiest, the most beautiful settings are here in this magnificent valley”, ensures production manager Bruno Bernard. The feature film received financial support from the Occitanie Pyrénées-Méditerranée Region in partnership with the CNC and logistical support from the Occitanie Film Commission.

“It is a department and a region where we are very well received, where there is a material and personal working tool which is real”, continues the production manager. For the city and the region, this shoot is a godsend in terms of image. “It is a film which will be shown on the screens of the whole of France and the people who will see the images of our territory, they will find it very nice and they will be right”, rejoices Dominique Fourcade, the mayor of Ax-les-Thermes.

Three years later Farewell to the night, André Téchiné’s new film follows the convalescence of a war-wounded man. Feet on the ground tells the story of a soldier stationed in Mali repatriated to Paris following a serious burn during the explosion of his armored vehicle. The doctors manage to put him back on his feet, but the soldier suffers from amnesia. His sister takes care of him at home in Ariège, where they grew up, to help him rebuild and regain his memory.

Featured in the feature film written by André Téchiné and Cedric Anger, we find two young actors recently discovered on the screens. Benjamin Voisin (Summer 85) and Noémie Merlant (Portrait of the girl on fire) will perform the lead roles.
