Garlic is also effective: Garlic has antimicrobial and cough-relieving properties. The Maryland Medical Center cites a study showing that garlic may help prevent colds and reduce their symptoms. Those who ate garlic for 12 weeks had 63 percent fewer colds than those who took the placebo drug.

Turmeric to cure winter: Turmeric is a spice that has antioxidant properties and is also helpful in treating many health problems. Drinking turmeric mixed with warm milk is a popular and effective way to fight cold and cough. Drinking a glass of warm turmeric milk before sleeping gives many benefits to the body.

Keep these things in mind: Avoid dairy products, avoid spicy, processed and fried foods, take steam twice a day, increase fluid intake and get plenty of rest.
