The South Korean director of Parasite, Bong Joon-ho, will chair the jury of the next Venice Film Festival, alongside French actress Virginie Efira and Chinese filmmaker Chloé Zhao, organizers announced on Wednesday. The 78th edition of the Venice International Film Festival will be held from September 1 to 11 in the Serenissima.

Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2019, Parasite had achieved in 2020 a historic double by obtaining the Oscar for “best foreign film” as well as that of “best film”. Bong Joon-Ho will be assisted by several big names, including Chinese director Chloé Zhao, who won with her film Nomadland three Oscars this year, including Best Picture. Will also seat Virginie Efira, who presented in Cannes the sulphurous Benedetta, by Paul Verhoeven, featuring the fiery love between two nuns in a medieval convent.

Italian director and screenwriter Saverio Costanzo, author of the series The prodigious friend taken from the eponymous bestseller of the writer Elena Ferrante will also sit in Venice. British Cynthia Erivo, theater and film actress, singer and songwriter, Canadian Sarah Gadon, actress and producer as well as Romanian director Alexander Nanau complete the jury.
